The Acid Test: Why Your Skin Needs Hyaluronic Acid

Well, technically this should say more hyaluronic acid. Despite its slightly off-putting name, hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring element in the skin. The snag is that it decreases with age, and this has a knock-on effect on skin’s appearance and general health.

Hyaluronic acid is a kind of soft jelly, which insulates skin from the inside. That means it protects and cushions our joints, nerves, muscles and even hair and eyes. As we get older it naturally deteriorates.

The most common use of hyaluronic acid is in fillers which are injected into the skin to get rid of wrinkles. It’s basically injecting collagen under the skin. Personally, I think injecting fillers is a step too far me, but I have heard it works. For a gentler, more long term solution, it’s worth finding a Face Cream like ours, which contains hyaluronic acid.

As it is super light and watery, it doesn't make a face cream heavy or difficult to absorb, so face creams like ours typically still feel non-greasy to the touch and are quickly absorbed. The hyaluronic acid gives moisturisers a kind of turbo boost in terms of hydration. I chose it for our face cream after using it for years along with a regular moisturiser, as it actively attracts moisture from the air around you, and retains water like no other substance we know of.

It’s a humectant, which means it attracts and stores water in skin - up to 1000 times its own weight in moisture per molecule. That’s what makes it make skin softer, plumper and more hydrated, which reverses the natural drying out of the skin as we get older.

It also has fantastic antioxidant qualities, and because it stimulates the production of collagen, it has impressive anti-ageing credentials. But for me, when I was putting together the formula for our Face Cream, the hydration offered by hyaluronic acid was what made it a must-have ingredient.

You’ll see a lot of products around these days that contain hyaluronic acid, and many of them will be effective, even if their claims might be a little inflated. The key thing to remember when deciding to give a new "miracle ingredient" a try, is what it will do for you.

The formula of our Face Cream is carefully calibrated to get the most out of each ingredient, while allowing them to synergies and complement each other. Hyaluronic acid works as a fantastic hydrating ingredient and combines perfectly with the jojoba and crocus bulb extract to boost collagen production and make skin noticeably smoother and more dewy looking.
